Retail giant offers toys mimicking transit to the slaughterhouse.
Four about $40, children’s toys with miniature livestock trailers and farmed animal figurines are available for purchase at Walmart. The so-called “toys” allow children to imitate the journey that these animals endure en route to slaughter. Both trucks are recommended for children three years and older, while one of them is catered specifically for boys. “Your little one can pretend to transport livestock to and fro with the New Ray Livestock Truck Play Set,” the online listing said, and are also supposed to “encourage imaginative play.” Children’s toys often depict cliché and unrealistic depictions of farms. To counter this cruelty-based play item, Compassion in World Farming created a parody play set featuring both a promotional video and online game mocking the disconnect between factory farming and its depiction in these traditional children’s play sets.
