Vegan Kat Von D Donates $50,000 To Mercy For Animals

The TV star’s gift to the animal-rights organization will be doubled due to a matching-grant program.

Famous tattoo artist Kat Von D has donated $50,000 to Mercy For Animals and its efforts to end animal abuse. She announced the news on Instagram December 17 after Kendo—a brand incubator for companies such as Marc Jacobs Beauty, Elizabeth and James, and Kat Von D Makeup—gave the star the $50,000 gift to donate to the charity of her choice. “Ultimately, I think we have a responsibility as humans to do what’s right, not just for our pockets or for ourselves, but what’s better for the planet,” Von D said in a YouTube video earlier this year. Von D’s beauty line is certified by both Leaping Bunny and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and she refuses to sell her products in China—where animal testing for cosmetics is mandatory. Her gift to Mercy For Animals will be doubled due to the organization’s Million-Dollar Matching challenge happening right now.
